What is the difference between ``Allergy`` and ``Intolerance``?
Some of the symptoms of allergies and intolerances are the same or similar, but the differences between the two are very important.
A true allergy is an immune system response. It is caused by the body mistaking a food or item as a harmful substance and releasing antibodies to fight it. The adverse reaction is usually rapid and can be life-threatening, even at microscopic levels. 5 Strands® Affordable Testing does NOT test for this type of reaction [IgE allergies].
5 Strands® Affordable Pet Testing only tests for “intolerances.” An intolerance is a response that does not take place in the body’s immune system and may appear several hours or days after ingestion or exposure. While intolerances may cause reactions ranging from a mild skin rash to severe digestive issues, they are not normally life-threatening.
The best way to prevent reactions to intolerances is to identify and avoid foods and substances that trigger them. For intolerances, this does not mean forever. After eliminating a food item that your pet is intolerant to and taking steps to help balance the body, you may be able to slowly bring foods back into their diet without experiencing uncomfortable symptoms.

What is the difference between the “E-Kit” and the “Shipped Kit” options upon purchase?
When choosing the “E-Kit” option, your emailed order confirmation will include an attached document file for immediate download and action. You will need to print the required submission form, fill it out and send to us along with your pet’s hair sample. Complete instructions regarding the form, hair sample, packing and mailing are included in the downloadable E-Kit document.
If you choose the “Shipped-Kit” option, your emailed order confirmation will NOT include an attached document for immediate download and action. Rather, within 5-7 business days, you will receive a kit in the mail which includes the required submission form to fill out to send to us along with your hair sample. In addition, you will receive a parchment paper bag and a static free bag in which to place the hair sample plus a shipping envelope. Complete printed instructions are provided in the Shipped Kit.
Please note that the turn-around time for the “E-Kit” is much quicker than the “Shipped Kit” because of the ability for you to immediately access the required submission form and take action. Regardless of the method chosen, you can expect to receive your test results within 5-7 days after the required submission form and hair sample have arrived at the processing center.
Do items need to be in your pet's body or environment for an intolerance to be detected?
No, 5 Strands® Affordable Pet Testing does not test for immunological responses which would require exposure to a particular allergen. Our method of testing utilizes bio resonance scanning to determine energetic imbalances between your pet’s body and the items being tested. The testing identifies intolerances which may cause varying degrees of symptoms if currently being ingested or exposed to, or would be in the future.

How accurate are the test results?
Affordable Testing stands behind the bio resonance hair-testing technology and takes every precaution and quality assurance protocol to ensure the accuracy of the testing results.
A strict elimination diet is truly the only way to test for food intolerances with complete accuracy. While an elimination diet is considered the Gold Standard, it is extremely challenging for an individual to be disciplined in their food intake and control every aspect of their food sourcing. The amount of time required to conduct such a regimented diet can be very lengthy and costly, especially if the individual has no guidelines on how to determine potentially offending items.
Affordable Testing removes the guesswork and makes an elimination diet easier by providing the exact list of items that should take priority in an elimination diet.
Accuracy is questioned in all types of allergy testing. Regardless if conducted by blood, saliva, or skin prick, negative results almost always mean that you are not allergic to a food. Positive results however are not always accurate. It’s been reported that about 50-60% of all skin prick tests yield “false positive” results, meaning that the test shows positive even though you are not really allergic to the food being tested.
What if I do not see an item on my Pet's Results? How do I know if they are intolerant to that item?
Affordable Testing checks for food and environmental intolerances against the hundreds of the items listed on our website. Your pet’s results only lists the items that have been identified as intolerances. If an item is not on their results, but is on the website master list, the item did not register as an intolerance.
If an item is NOT listed on our website, that means we currently do not test for that item and cannot tell you whether that item would register as an intolerance.
What evidence supports the effectiveness of Affordable Testing?
While there has not been a specific clinical trial to verify our testing services, a vast amount of documented research has been conducted over the last 30 years which supports the electromagnetic/electric/magnetic scientific field on which the testing is based.

Do I need to re-test my pet? If so, when?
As the body is constantly changing, intolerances may be changing as well. A negative result today may not necessarily mean that a food or substance will not create issues in your pet’s body in the future. And, what may be a trigger today may become normalized. Intolerances can be better understood and overcome through processes including elimination, detoxification, improving your gut health, improving your overall health, reintroduction, etc. Since no two pets respond to intolerances or treatments in the same way, periodic re-testing can help keep you on track during your pet’s healing process. Re-testing may be beneficial after a few weeks or a few months. Ask your health advisor to guide you. Please contact our customer service department to discuss a discounted price for any re-testing.

What is your refund policy?
Customer satisfaction is our goal and we want you to be happy with your decision to purchase 5 Strands® Affordable Pet Testing.
If you change your mind after purchase, we will offer you a full refund provided that you notify us of your decision to cancel your order within 7 days of placement and before mailing in your hair sample.
Once you’ve mailed your pet’s hair sample and it has been received in our processing center, you will not be entitled to a full refund upon cancellation. You will be charged a $40 administrative processing fee which will be deducted from the price you paid for the test.
